Search Engine Turf
Microsoft's Bing grew its number of queries from U.S. users by over 22 percent month-on-month during August, making it the fastest growing major search provider, according to data from Nielsen. The engine, which was re-launched in June, now accounts for 10.7 percent of all U.S. searches. Market leader Google managed growth of 2.6 percent in comparison, behind an overall average of 2.9 percent for the sector, but continues its dominance with 65 percent of searches. Yahoo, meanwhile, saw its volume of searches drop by 4.2 percent, but continues to hold second place in terms of overall share with 16 percent. Rounding out the top four, AOL experienced growth of 2.9 percent, accounting for 3.1 percent of total searches. Google has always had the philosophy that we want to give people access to information and other things they want to do. Google is and always has been a large switch -- we send a large amount of traffic to other sites. So these newer services are not that different from what we've seen all along and what we'll see going forward.
The Major Player’s Microsoft, Yahoo, Tweeter, Time Warner and others attempt and succeed in creating new products, search engines and developments which keep them on top. In February 2008: Yahoo! is seeking to restart merger talks with AOL as a means of defending itself against the $45 billion hostile bid approach from Microsoft.
Google Releases Complete Android Open Source Project
Android is viewed as a way to escape the strictures of more tightly controlled mobile platforms like Apple's iPhone, Windows Mobile, Symbian, and BlackBerry. Censorship 'changes face of net'
Burma is among countries accused of repressing net freedoms
Amnesty International has warned that the internet "could change beyond all recognition" unless action is taken against the erosion of online freedoms.
The warning comes ahead of a conference organized by Amnesty, where victims of repression will outline their plights.
The "virus of internet repression" has spread from a handful of countries to dozens of governments, said the group.
Amnesty accused companies such as Google, Microsoft and Yahoo of being complicit in the problem. When challenged on their presence in countries such as China in the past, the companies accused have always maintained that they were simply abiding by local laws.
Amnesty is concerned that censorship is on the increase.
"The Chinese model of an internet that allows economic growth but not free speech or privacy is growing in popularity, from a handful of countries five years ago to dozens of governments today who block sites and arrest bloggers," said Tim Hancock, Amnesty's campaign director.
"Unless we act on this issue, the internet could change beyond all recognition in the years to
come.
Intellectual Property
My own personal policial view on issues that will arise will be that countrys will need to come together with laws or regulations that as bias for the internet. Such as religion, property and money matters.
